Every autumn, New Yorkers prepare to feel inspired by The ING New York City Marathon. Sunday was no exception as spectators lined up on the sidelines in all five boroughs, holding signs and shouting names of friends, or strangers, who ran 26.2 arduous miles. For the 46,795 people who completed the 42nd annual race this year, the inspiration came in the form of the moments they got back up, picked up the pace, or took on the final mile. And when it was over — when Central Park teemed with supportive families, protein bars and tired legs — the city made space for the weary legs, determined minds, and weekend’s heroes.
